Bio

Carolyn Brady graduated from Eldon High School in Missouri in 1956. After attending Central Missouri State University and Palomar Community College, she graduated with distinction from San Diego State University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and a Psychology Minor. In 1969 she returned to earn her Masters of Arts.

After working three years in the Sweetwater High School District, she was hired at Southwestern Community College in 1971 and began an outstanding career as a professor, coach, and administrator. During her tenure she was the only female to coach and administer four woman’s sport programs: volleyball, basketball, softball, and tennis. She also served as Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Women’s Athletics, and Director of Physical Education and Athletics.       

Carolyn earned the reputation as being an extremely hardworking, competent and dedicated proponent of the women’s athletic program, helping to implement Title IX’s philosophy and policies. If a job needed to be done right, then ask Carolyn. She earned the respect of all her colleagues at Southwestern as well as those in opposing conference colleges with her dedication and commitment to her student athletes. 

During her professional career, Carolyn won many awards and honors. She belongs to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at SDSU. She was a Southwestern College Women of Distinction in 1986. She was awarded the Pacific Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 1998-1999 as well as the Conference All- Sports Coach of the Year in 1999-2000. She also earned the California Community College Tennis Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award in 2001.

When Carolyn Brady retired from Southwestern College, she left a legacy of achievement, pride, respect and work ethic for the women’s sports program at Southwestern College. She was a mentor for teachers, coaches, and all the athletes that she served.
