Bio

R.C. Delgado graduated from Calexico High School in California. In October 1940, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in World War II. After his military service, he received an Honorable Discharge in 1946, and promptly went to work for Convair. He remained at Convair until he was hired by Southwestern Community College in 1964.

“Delgado” was SWC’s first Athletic Trainer, working with both the women’s and men’s program for nineteen years, never missing one football game. He appealed to the athletes, using his humor to dispel their fears and his skills to rehab their injuries. He spent many hours in the evenings and weekends traveling with teams and dealing with countless coaches and administrators win or lose. He was always the consummate professional.

He retired in September 1986, and attained his lifelong dream when he was inducted in the World of Sports Medicine Hall of Fame as a Trainer on May 15, 1993. Delgado, he “jokes” and his many contributions to Southwestern and its student athletes will long be remembered.
