Bio

Peter Deddeh graduated from Castle Park High School in 1974 where he competed in two sports, football and baseball. He was selected to the All-Metro League Football Second Team and in 1974 earned a starting position as guard in the North Country Vs South Country All-Star Football Game. Not only an athlete, Peter was recognized for his outstanding leadership, winning both Castle Park’s (the Trojan’s) Baseball and the Senior Leadership Award in Athletics.

Peter attended Southwestern College from 1974 until 1976, participating in intercollegiate football in 1974 and 1975. His performance on the field earned him a Mission Conference Honorable Mention at Defensive End in 1974 and selection to the Mission Conference Second Team at Defensive End his sophomore season.

After transferring from Southwestern College, Peter attended the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), graduating in 1978. At UCSB, he participated in rugby –an aggressive sport that utilized his football and athletic skills. He was member of the notorious Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) Rugby Team in 1975-76 and again from 1979-89. His OMBAC Team won the 1985 National 7-A-Side Championship and the National Club Championship in 1988 and 1989. Recognized for his skills and competitiveness, Peter was selected to the U.S. National Rugby 7-A- Side Team in 1986.

In 1982, Peter completed his education by graduating from University of San Diego Law School. His professional career began when he was appointed Deputy District Attorney in 1983 a post he held until 1998. He served as Chief Deputy District Attorney of the Juvenile Division from 1995 to 1997 and as Chief of the South Bay Branch of the District Attorney’s Office in 1997-98. In 1999, Peter received the Deputy District Attorney’s Association Outstanding Achievement Award.

Governor Pete Wilson appointed Peter to the Superior Court Bench in 1998. He served as the Presiding Judge of the Downtown Division from 2001 to 2005. Since 2002 Peter has been Judge of the Homeless Court.

In 1990, Peter married his wife Aleta. The Deddehs have three children, Trevor, 12, and twin daughters, Alexandra and Samantha, 10. In his leisure time, he has coached youth baseball, and since 1999 has donated hundreds of hours to the Tecolote Youth Baseball League. From 2002 to 2006, he also coached the San Diego Bucs, a travel team. In 2006, the Bucs won the Cooperstown National All-Star Tournament Baseball Championship in the 12-and-under division, an outstanding achievement for Peter and his team.

Judge Deddeh is one of Southwestern’s consummate graduates. He personifies the Athletic Department’s mission to stimulate and develop an individual’s potential through academics and athletics. Peter Outstanding contributions as a judge and as a youth baseball coach continue to positively impact our San Diego community. Welcome Judge Deddeh to the 2007 Southwester College Athletic Hall of Fame.
