Bio

From 1989-1993, Janet Eleazar attended Southwest High School and competed in basketball where she earned team MVP honors, the Hustle Award, 1st Team All-Metro League selection, and was the in the top 10 in scoring in the county her senior season.

After graduation, she continued her education at Southwestern College playing basketball for the Lady Jaguars and earning Defensive Player of the Year and the Unsung Hero Award. Janet’s favorite memory is winning the Pacific Coast Conference Championship and playing with great athletes. “I treasure the friendships and memories I had with my teammates.”

Janet transferred to San Diego State University and in 1997 was awarded her B.S. in Child Development. Continuing to pursue her goals, she enrolled at National University where she earned a Single Subject Credential in Health, a Single Subject Credential in Special Education, and in 2004, her M.A. in Education.

Janet has been coaching for over 20 years. She coached 15 seasons at Eastlake High School and was Varsity Head Coach for 12 of those seasons, winning 11 Metro League titles, 10 of these consecutively. In 2007, they won the Division 1 CIF Championship and she was named San Diego County and Metro Conference Coach of the Year. Janet has helped more than 20 young ladies enroll and play basketball in college programs, ranging from Division 1 to community colleges. In 2009 she also created the San Diego Piranhas, an AAU Sports Group for girls and boys ages 5-18 years where she is Director and Head Coach. Her focus is developing fundamental basketball skills, and most importantly, teaching life skills and values her players can apply to their own lives. She teaches that hard work, commitment, teamwork, responsibility and loyalty equal success.

Currently, Janet is working to obtain an additional M.S. in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific University, is teaching health and special education at the Sweetwater Union High School District, and is Southwestern College new Women’s Head Basketball Coach. She is married to Edward Martin, a physical education teacher and varsity basketball coach. They have two sons, Kyden who is 7 years old and Keanu who is 2 years old. With both parents teaching and coaching, the word teamwork is a prerequisite every day in the Eleazar-Martin household.
