DAHIR MOHAMED graduated from Hoover High School in 2009. He was a talented, multisport athlete who participated in both cross country and track. In cross country, he participatedin the State Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 while winning the CIF IndividualChampionship in 2008. In track, Dahir competed in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-distant eventsas well as the steeple chase.

In 2009, Dahir enrolled at Southwestern College where he trained with the Jaguars’ Head Cross Country Coach, Dr. Duro Agbede. Again, he participated in both cross country and track and field. Always a fierce competitor, he became one of the top runners in the Pacific Coast Conference and in California. In track, Dahir ran the steeple chase as well as the distant events. He became the Pacific Coast Conference Champion in the 5,000-meter event.

In cross country, Dahir was unbeaten in conference duringthe 2009 and 2010 seasons. He broke the course record at the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational and won all the community college cross country invitationals held in California during that period of time. In 2009, he led the Jaguars to a second place finish in the conference and a first place finish in the 2010 Community College Regional Championships. Because of his outstanding success as a runner, he was invited to the UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Stanford University’s Invitational. Competing against four-year runners, Dahir held his own, placing among the top 15 runners in these events. He also received the Pacific Coast Conference Most Valuable Cross Country Conference Award for both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Dahir’s competiveness and success earned him All-American honors and attracted the attention of NCAA Division I coaches from around the country. Dahir chose Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia from the many offers he received. There he ran both cross country and track. Continuing his individual success, he placed among the top 25 cross country runners in the Southern Athletic Intercollegiate Conference. In track, he ran the steeple chase and the 10,000-meter races. He achieved All-American honors in both cross country and in track. A student as well as an athlete, Dahir graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations.

Dahir returned to San Diego where he took a job with the County of San Diego in the Health and Human Resources Department. He is still there today. But…running is in his blood. Presently, he is the Assistant Coach for both the Boys’ and the Girls’ Cross Country Teams at Bonita Vista High School. With his help, the Boys’ Cross Country Team participated in the 2017 State Championships.

Dahir’s best memory at Southwestern College was not only “achieving success as a runner but more importantly traveling with Coach Duro
and hanging out with my teammates.”
