Trudie Nixon

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has honored San Diego Mesa swimmer Carley Lupien and Southwestern softball player Trudie Nixon as its Women’s Athletes of the Week for April 2nd through April 8th.

Lupien, a freshman out of Poway High School, won both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team at the Riverside Invitational over the weekend.

In the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, Lupien swept through the dual meet season undefeated at both breaststroke distances. Mesa’s 200 medley relay team also went unbeaten through the PCAC dual meet season. The Mesa swimming and diving team won another conference dual meet championship this season, and the Olympians are a heavily favored to win next week’s conference championships at Palomar’s Wallace Memorial Pool, which will determine the official PCAC champion.

Nixon, Southwestern’s freshman pitching ace and outfielder from Coronado High School, came up big in leading the Jaguars to a 5-win, 1-loss week, going 4-0 with an ERA of 0.86 for the week with 17 strikeouts in 24 innings, and pounding out 9 hits, scoring 5 runs and driving in 7 runs.

In a 5-1 conference victory over Mesa, she picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run while striking out 2 batters and walking one. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and was walked once. In her other conference game, Nixon notched a 14-0, complete-game run-rule win. She pitched a 4-hitter over 5 innings, striking out 2. Offensively, she contributed an RBI and scored a run.

Nixon’s picked up her third win for the week, pitching a run-rule 13-1 victory over Moorpark in the first game of a double-header sweep of Moorpark, while allowing 3 hits in 4 innings while turning a double play defensively. At the plate, she was 2-for-4, tripled, drove in 4 runs and scored 2 runs. In the second game, she closed the game, pitching and last 2 2/3 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, striking out 3 without a walk as the Jaguars won 7-3. She was 1-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run. Mt. SAC pounded out 15 hits in handing the Jaguars their lone loss for the week 10-6 in the game in which Nixon did not pitch. She went 1-for-3 and scored a run against the Mounties. She concluded the week by striking out 7 batters, 5 looking, in a win over Hancock.
