“Bell is Golden at PCAC Championships”

April 20, 2019 - Sophomore track and field super-star Tajanique Bell owned the PCAC conference championships at Cuyamaca College. Laying waste to all her competitors that she entered, Tajanique completed her first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with three gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Bell, in route to three individual event titles, smashed the twelve year old Southwestern College 100m dash record and becomes the first women in school history to run sub 12 seconds with a finishing time of 11.99. Her second school record was soon to follow in the 100m hurdle event where she has been the top athlete in the state all season. She aggressively hurdled into SWC record books with a run of 14.02 narrowly missing the magical 13 second barrier. In her final individual event of the day, Tajanique destroyed the field in the 400m hurdle race setting a personal record and the second fastest time in school history of 62.01. Her closest competitor, five seconds behind her.

Tajanique also helped the women’s relays. The women’s 4 x 100m relay finished second in a controversial fashion when the leading teams 3rd leg stepped into Bells lane forcing Tajanique to sprint around the athlete. A protest was filed but denied as the referee “reportedly” didn’t observe the offense. However, video proof and hundreds of fans surely saw it… In Bell’s final race, she lent her talents to the Lady Jag’s 4 x 400m relay who need to shave off twelve seconds to qualify for the SoCal Regional Championships May 4th at Riverside Community College. Together with Jacqueline Beas, Angel Chelik and Alondra Osuna, Taj ran a stellar race and pushed the team below the qualifying mark and shaved the required time off of their season’s best, easily reaching the mark for SoCal’s. Finally, Tajanique’s 30 individual points and assistance with the relays contributed mightily to the Lady Jag’s overall Conference 3rd place finish.
