COACHES CORNER... MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

6 hour bus ride can't stop the JAGS WHO WIN 35-14.

The defense was big again for the JAGS with forcing the Bulldog's to fight for a first down in the second quarter of the game.  Sophomore RICKI BARFIELD (McClure North HS) intercepted two passes and caught a blocked punt for a TD that took all the gas out of Allan Hancock.  The score was JAGS 14... AHC 0.  To start the second half the Bulldogs drove the ball and scored to narrow the lead to 7 points.  

The JAGS answered with an 80 yard drive to expand the lead back to 14 points.  A key play in the drive was a conversion on third and long from DE MONTE MORRIS (McClure North HS) to NICK S​EXTON (Christian HS) completion. 

ISAIAH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) was named the offensive player of the game while MORRIS was named the game MVP.  The win set  the JAGS with three American Conference championships in the last five years.

COACHES CORNER… SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE

SWC BEATS MESA FOR AMERICAN MOUNTAIN THE LEAGUE TITLE. It was a backyard brawl... our defense shut them out in second half...  Our Offense scored on a double pass in the second half for the winner!

OFFENSE:  The big player for the Mesa game was receiver CAMERON LEWIS (Enlow HS) 8 reception's for 148 yards and a 59 yard TD to take the lead for good.  Sophomore RB ISAIAH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) rushed 16 times for 83 yds and two TD's.

DEFENSE: Safety RICKY BARFIELD (McCluer North HS) intercepted two passes including tha final play of the game to win the game. Freshman corner JALEN NELSON (Horizon HS) led the team with 7 tackles and a key pass break up at the end of the game.

KICKING GAME:  Sophomore long snapper MANNY MACHADO (Garces Memorial HS) was money all night and all season.


We play Allen Hancock in Santa Maria Saturday at 4:00 pm for American Conference Championship

COACHES CORNER… COLLEGE OF THE DESERT

JAG FOOTBALL KEEPS WINNING… BEATS COLLEGE OF THE DESERT 59-21

OFFENSE:  The JAGS offense returned to it's explosive way scorning 59 points.  The onslaught was led by sophomore RB ISAIAH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) who rushed for \ 209 yards and four TD's.  The return of two year starting OG JOSH PARTIDA (Madison HS) was great to see in action.  Freshman QB DEMONTE MORRIS (Maclure North HS) started his second game in a row and threw for 184 yards and 2 TD's.  He also rushed for 124 yards.  Sophomore WR CHRIS MACK (Culver City HS) led all receivers with 7 interceptions.

DEFENSE:  Freshman SHAQUEZ BOND (Enlow HS, IL) intercepted his 7th pass since being moved from defense to offense.  Up front freshman DL DYLAN DUNN (Lincoln HS) had two tackles and 1.5 sacks on the night.  Inside LB TRYSTIN DEAL (Moapaa Valley HS) 4 tackles and 2 tackles for loss.  DURAN MILLER (Mt. Miguel HS) kept constant  pressure on the COD QB and chased him down numerous times.

KICKING GAME:  Sophomore kick returner ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) had 76 yards on kick and punt returns.  Freshman receiver PADEN HAZUGA (Mar Vista HS) had 2 big tackles on our kickoff team.  Freshman kicker MARCOS SANCHEZ (Mater Dei HS) provided the distance on kickoff that produced great field position for our team.

COACHES CORNER… SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE

JAG FOOTBALL MOVES TO 6-2 OVERALL AND 3-0 IN MOUNTAIN LEAGUE PLAY.

OFFENSE:  The JAGS offense exploded behind the play of sophomore CHRIS MACK (Culver City HS)  led all receivers 8 catches and two TD's.  Freshman QB DEMONTE MORRIS (McCluer North HS, St. Louis) had played earlier in the season but had his first start of the year.   MORRIS threw for 271 yards and four TD's.  Freshman OL SAM TAPIA (Bonita Vista HS) had his best game of the season.

DEFENSE:  Freshman converted receiver SHAQUEZ BOND (Enlow HS, IL) intercepted his 6th & 7 passes of the season and had 5 tackles.  He ran one back for a TD right before half time.  Sophomore DE ANDREW RAFFE (Chula Vista HS) had 5 tackles.  Our defense shut down one of the top offenses in the Mountain League.

KICKING GAME:  The game started out with a big tackle on the opening kickoff that forced a fumble the freshman AUSTIN FUGA (Castle HS, HI)) scooped the ball up and ran for a 20 yard TD.  The kickoff coverage team has been a major force on the special teams.  JANAI CRAWFORD (Spoto HS, FL) scooped and ran a 97 yard return of a blocked Extra Point.

COACHES CORNER… MT. SAN JACINTO COLLEGE. 

JAG FOOTBALL WINS AGAIN.  SWC WINS AGAIN WITH A 17-7 VICTORY AT MT. SAN JACINTO's HOMECOMING GAME.

OFFENSE:  The offense struggled all afternoon moving two steps forward and 3 steps back.  We fumbled 4 times with MSJC recovering all 4.  We did score on 3 short field (including from the 4 yard line) scores.  Sophomore RB ISAIAH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) rushed 29 times for 114 yards and one TD.  Freshman offensive lineman RICKY LUNA (San Ysidro HS) was named Offensive Player of the Game.

DEFENSE:  For the third week in a row the JAG defense has come up big.  The JAGS intercepted the Eagles 5 times on the night as well recovered 3 MSJC fumbles for a total of 8 turnovers.  Leading the way was freshman SHAQUEZ BOND (Decatur McArthur HS).  CAMERON HANSON (Mt. Miguel HS) led the team with 8 total tackles.  Fellow freshman Matador DURAN MILLER had 3 sacks on the night.

KICKING GAME:  RALFIE GOMEZ (Olympian HS) handled most of the punting and was 1 for 1 on field goals.

COACHES CORNER… VICTOR VALLEY COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE

JAGS PUT BACK TO BACK WINS TOGETHER WITH A 30-14 WIN OVER VICTOR VALLEY.  ON TO MT. SAN JACINTO COLLEGE. 

OFFENSE:  The game started out rocky with our backs against the end zone we once again fumbled away the ball and VVC scored the first TD of the game.  The next time the JAGS got the ball freshman QB ARMANI SAILOR-JONES (Silverado HS, Las Vegas) came into the game and led us to 30 unanswered points on our way to a 1-0 record in the Mountain League.  Sophomore RB ISAIAH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) rushed for 108 yards to lead the ground game.  On the offensive line sophomore ROBIN LUNA (Germany) played his best game of the season.

DEFENSE: The defense played tough from the get go.  Freshman safety SAHQ BOND (Decator Mcarthur HS IL) had another solid game to follow up his two interception game agaist Citrus College.  Sophomore ETHAN WILLIAMS (Bonita Vista HS) had a interception.  Freshman LB CAMERON HANSON (Mount Miguel HS) also had a big night

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Freshman punter/ place kicker RALPHIE GOMEZ (Olympian HS) was the top special teams player dominating field position with his punts.  ETHAN WILLIAMS (Bonita Vista HS) was solid returning short popup kickoffs.

COACHES CORNER… CITRUS COLLEGE COLLEGE

JAGS BOUNCE BACK TO GET BIG WIN OVER CITRUS COLLEGE 16-3.  JAGS MOVE INTO BYE WEEK 2017. 

OFFENSE:  The game started with the dominant play in the game… A NICK SEXTON (WR Christian HS) to RYAN STOKES (Meclure North HS) Double Pass for a 60+ yard touchdown pass.  That pass would hold up most of the game with the JAGS holding a 10-0 lead the majority of the game. Our offensive line was overwhelmed most of the night as the Owls blitzed the majority of downs.

DEFENSE: Defense DOMINATED the game with 5 interceptions and too many tackles for loss to keep track.  SERGIO AYON (Otay Ranch HS) had another huge game.  … 11 tackles, 5 solo, 2.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass break up Freshman DE DURAN MILLER (Mount Miguel HS) chased the QB / RB down from the backside using his speed.  Our middle LB that could be a player of the game on any game day SHAQUEZ BOND (Decatur McArthur HS / Illinois) switched from WR on Monday had two interceptions on the night.  Sophomore Safety RICKY BARFIELD (McCluer North HS) closed out the with a back breaking interception taken back for a touchdown with under 2 minutes to go in the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Freshman punter DEAN SMITH (Eastlake HS) kept Citrus out of scoring distance with precision punts.

COACHES CORNER… PASADENA CITY COLLEGE

JAGS FALL TO PASADENA IN FINAL 21 SECONDS, 38-34. 

The JAGS played a tough PCC team this past weekend and traded blows for 4 quarters.  Field position and a lack of ability to win the one on one contested passes were our unduing.

OFFENSE:  Freshman QB DEMONTE MORRIS (McClure North HS / St. Louis) scrambled all over the field and threw a deep TD to former high school teammate RYAN STOKES (McClure North HS / St. Louis).  Turnovers were the story of the game with the offense throwing 2 interceptions and numerous near miss interceptions.  We started with poor field position most of the night with poor judgements by our kicking game group.

DEFENSE: SERGIO AYON (Otay Ranch HS) made a ton of plays in the Lancer back field.  Defensively we stopped the run but gave up a handful of critical catches by PCC late in the game.  Numerous occasions our offense put our defense in tough field positions but the JAGS defense stepped up to the task.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore RB/Slot ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) ran another punt back for a TD for a total of 5 on the year.  Freshman kicker ALEX NIXON (Valley HS, San Diego) had two field goals and Punter DEAN SMITH (Eastlake HS) punted 5 big punts on the night.

COACHES CORNER… LA PIERCE COLLEGE 2017

JAGS GET THEIR 2ND WIN IN A ROW 51-13 OVER LA PIERCE. 

The JAGS continued the trend of tough defense and excellent special teams to win by a wide margin over LA Pierce.  Pierce was struggling with the firing of of their head coach as a result of decorum violations from the previous weeks game.

OFFENSE:  Freshman QB DEMONTE MORRIS (McClure North HS / St. Louis) ran the ball well and threw a couple of key passes.  Sophomore RB ISAIAH STRAYHONR (Eastlake HS) led all runners on the night and had a long touchdown run of 63 yards.  Our offensive line is continuing to improve.  Freshman center VAA JENNINGS (Morse HS) has solidified our inside run game.

DEFENSE: A second week in a row with a solid effort.  Sophomore LB ZYAIR VELASQUES (Hoover HS) led all tacklers with 7 total tackles.  Freshman STEVEN MASON (Torrey Pines HS) had one sack and one tackle for loss with constant pressure on the QB.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore RB/Slot ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) ran a 100 yard kickoff return for a TD.  Freshman kicker ALEX NIXON (Valley HS, San Diego) continues to impress.

COACHES CORNER… GLENDALE COLLEGE 2017

JAGS GET STRAIGHT AND OPEN UP IN ALL THREE PHASES IN THE GAME TO BEAT GLENDALE 49-7. 

OFFENSE:  Freshman QB Josh Cartwright (American Senior HS, Miami Florida). Another TD ( 3 in two weeks to sophomore WR NICK SEXTON (Christian HS). Up front sophomore offensive guard 6'5, 315 lbs ROBIN LUNA (Transfer student from Germany) is getting better daily.  An excellent drive blocker ROBIN uses his size and strength to get the needed leverage to be successful.  Freshman MAX MAKAROV (San Jacinto HS) set the tone on the night with a 10 carry 70 yd drive to secure the victory.  The top receiver was sophomore CHRIS MACK (Culver City HS).  He has two TD catches (one overturned on a holding call).  Back to Back games with multiple catches.

DEFENSE: The JAG defense is alive and well.  Our defense forced 12 punts from Glendale (two of which we returned for TD's).  Freshman giant 6'8 STEVEN MASON (Torrey Pines HS) set the tone for the night by chasing down the Glendale QB.  RICKI BARFIELD (McClure North MO) had a great day in our secondary.  The defensive player of the week was sophomore middle LB SERGIO AYON (Otay Ranch HS).  He had 1.5 tackles for loss and .5 sacs. 

SPECIAL TEAMS:  The special teams was on top of their games with a very similar outcome.  Sophomore RB/Slot ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) ran two punts for TD's.  Freshman kicker ALEX NIXON (Valley HS, San Diego) made all the extra points 4 for 4 and kicked a 26 yard field goal.  Freshman punter Christopher Gomez (Otay Ranch HS) only punted once but for 43 yards.

COACHES CORNER… PALOMAR COLLEGE 2017

JAGS OPEN THE SEASON WITH A TOUGH HOME LOSS TO PALOMAR COLLEGE 38-31. 

The JAGS had a difficult time containing the versatile QB from Palomar Sophomore Matt Romero (Oceanside HS).  The hottest day in recent memory for San Diego County didn't stop the game from going on.  A large opening day crowd was on hand to watch the game go back and forth.

OFFENSE:  Freshman QB Josh Cartwright (American Senior HS, Miami Florida) threw two TD's to sophomore WR  NICK SEXTON (Christian HS).  Sophomore RB ISAIH STRAYHORN (Eastlake HS) scored on a one yard run. Freshman OT SAM TAPIA (Bonita Vista HS) dominated the DE over him.

DEFENSE: Our normally stingy defense was under attack from the start of the game.  Standouts were sophomore corner ETHAN WILLIMAS (Bonita Vista HS) starting on defense for the first time in his Southwestern career.  Defensive lineman AC… ANTHONY CLAYTON (EastBay HS FL) is in his third year at SWC and nearing his AA Degree.   

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore RB/Slot ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) ran a 98 yard kickoff return for a TD.  Freshman kicker ALEX NIXON (Valley HS, San Diego) made all his extra points 4 for 4 and kicked a 26 yard field goal.  Punter DEAN SMITH (Eastlake HS) punted 6 time for an average of 32 yards pinning Palomar down inside their 20 yard line.
