Mayakla Saenz signs with women's soccer for 2019
OLD WESTURY, N.Y. — NYIT women's soccer coach Karim Diallo has continued to accumulate talent for the 2019 season with the signing of Makayla Saenz from Southwestern Community College in Chula Vista, Calif.
Saenz started 20 matches for the Jaguars last fall as the squad went undefeated in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference South Division play en route to the program's first-ever league title.
Southwestern College posted a combined 29-10-5 record in Saenz's two seasons there. She started 43 matches during that span, tallying two goals and an assist.
The 5-foot-7 Saenz hails from Albuquerque, N.M., where she attended Saint Pius X High School.
She will enter NYIT as a junior.
"She's a strong defensive midfielder with decent size who can also play as a center back," Diallo said. "She will definitely give us depth in the middle, and the back line if needed."
NYIT women's soccer continued its upward trajectory last fall. The Bears posted a program-best 10-5-2 record, which included a 4-3-2 mark in East Coast Conference play.
