FAST OUT OF THE BLOCKS

(March 14, 2022) – The Southwestern College Track & Field team came out of a two-year pause hot off the mark. Freshman Lady Jaguar sensation Amanda Shaw, formerly from Eastlake High, opened her 2022 season campaign with a CCCAA State auto qualifying A-Standard and the 3rd ranked triple-jump in the state. Her mark of 11.06m (36' 3.5") ranks Amanda's leap as second farthest jump in school history behind school record holder and San Jose State alum, Lachelle Autry's mark of 12.02m (39' 5.25").

Alexis Meeks joins twin sister Alyssa Meeks on this year's team. Both Alexis and Alyssa formerly ran for Olympian High School and earned scholarship awards to Baker University in Kansas. However, the pandemic brought both athletes back home to Chula Vista with desires to climb the SWC record books before they return to the university levels. Alyssa Meeks is currently #8 in the 100m, #5 in the 200m, and #7 in the 400m all-time for the Lady Jaguars. Alexis quickly joined her sister bursting onto the all-time list in the 200m/#8 and the 400m/#5 positions. With the help of Freshman sprinter and soccer player Brenda Reymundo, the quartet of Meeks, Meeks, Shaw and Reymundo will soon attack the record books for the 4 x 100m relay as well.

On the men's side, Freshman sensations and best friends Patrick Henderson and Trevor Plott chose Southwestern College to further their athletic talents and make the move from La Quinta, California. The dynamic men quickly have not disappointed. Both Trevor and Patrick have made the mark moving into the SWC All-time list in the one lap race (400m) with times eclipsing the fifty second mark with Trevor just edging out Patrick thus far with a seasonal best of 49.86 to Henderson's 49.96. Their marks now rank them 7th and 8th on the All-Time list.

Qualifying for SoCal and meeting the State Qualifying-B standard, the men's 4 x 100m relay team consisting of Sophomores Jakari Lowe, Kelvin Robinson, Diego Sanchez, and Freshman Omar Williams have opened up with an impressive season campaign transporting the baton one lap around the track with a respectable time of 42.79 which just moves them into the tenth position on the All-Time list.
