Baseball 2023 - Coaches Update

"The SWC Jaguars baseball team started the 2023 season playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the state. Playing top ranked schools such as Riverside CC, Orange Coast CC, Saddleback CC, Chaffey CC, El Camino CC and Fullerton CC. Throughout Pacific Coast Conference play the Jaguars were able to capture series wins over SD City College, SD Mesa College, Grossmont College and Imperial Valley College. The Jaguars earned a second-place finish in PCAC league play and a 2023 State Playoff berth.

The Jaguars pitching staff led by sophomores Andy Canedo, Jaden Wilcox and freshman Glen Huggins combined with the Southwestern Jaguars offense led by sophomore center fielder Adrian Hinojosa and sophomore catcher Aaron Garcia hit the road in a first-round playoff matchup against Allan Hancock College. The Jaguars pulled off an amazing 3-2 victory in the twelfth inning of game one, over the host team Allan Hancock College. Game two started with some fireworks as SWC Jaguar left fielder, Aiden Perez sparked the offense with a first inning grand slam to put the Jaguars up 4-0. The Jaguars never looked back and secured a 6-4 win, sweeping Allan Hancock College in the first round of the CCCAA State Playoffs.

After the first round regional playoff series win, the SWC Jaguars hosted the CCCAA Super Regional Playoff Round. The Super Regional Pool was made up of Southwestern College, Grossmont College and the College of the Canyons. The SWC Jaguars season came to an end during the Super Regional Round, with a one run loss to College of the Canyons (2-3) and an offensive shootout loss to Grossmont College (12-18).

The SWC Jaguars will look to pick up right where they left off during the 2023 season, under head coach Jay Martel's tenure another trip to the CCCAA State Playoffs is well within the program's grasp."
