Coco headed to 3C2A State Championship

LONG BEACH, CA – Cross country runner Valencio Coco to continue impressive season and represent Southwestern College at the California Community College Athletic Association Cross Country State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA on Saturday, November 18.

The first-year collegiate runner for Southwestern College from High Tech High in Chula Vista earned an automatic qualifier to the state championship with an overall time of 21:49.8 in the four-mile race at the So Cal Regional XC Championships held on November 3 at El Dorado East Regional Park in Long Beach. 

Coco's performance led the Jaguars on Saturday, with three other SWC runners also competing in the So Cal Regional Championships.  Sophomore runner Jeffrey Salinas was the team's next best finisher with a time of 22:32.3. Freshmen Emanuel Gutierrez and Noah Crowley rounded out the Jag quartet in their regional debut. 

From the Northern California and Southern California Regional Championship meets, a maximum combined total of fifty (50) men's and fifty (50) women's individual qualifiers are permitted to advance to the CCCAA State championship if they finish within the top 50-percent of all finishers within their Regional Championship.
