Strong Pitching, Hitting lead the Jags to 3 wins in 4 days

The Southwestern College Jaguar bats came alive over the weekend, scoring 10 runs in the first 2 games over the weekend and 9 runs on Monday as the Jags overpowered San Diego City College 10-4 on Friday and Golden West College 10-3 on Saturday at the Southwestern Softball Field. The Jags then went on the road and defeated Saddleback 9-3 on Monday to take their winning streak to 4 games.

On Friday, the Jags spotted the Knights of SDCC 3 runs in the first but came back strong only allowing 1 unearned run the rest of the way and banging out 10 hits in route to the 10-4 win. Dani Sandez (Otay Ranch) and Haley Oceguerra (Santana) each had 2 hits and 3 RBIs to lead the Jags. Elyssa Garcia (Clairemont) also chipped in 2 hits including a double.  Madison Mendez (Santana) went all 7 innings to get the win, allowing zero earned runs and striking out 3.

On Saturday, Golden West, the States' leading hitting team came to visit, and the Jags did some hitting themselves.  The Jags knocked out 13 hits and scored 10 runs to get the win over the Rustlers. Dani Sandez again led the way with 3 hits and Madison Mendez, Elyssa Garcia, and Danika Munoz (Helix) each added 2 hits. Munoz had 4 RBIs to pace the Jags. Madison Mendez again threw all 7 innings. Mendez allowed 12 hits, but some nice defensive plays and some key outs helped prevent the Rustlers from getting back into the game. Munoz and Sandez both threw out runners at the plate to end innings and thwart the Rustlers.

On Monday, the Jags headed up to Saddleback College. Saddleback defeated the Jags 3-2 earlier in the season and the Jags were looking to even the series. The Jags struck first with a run scoring on an error and then Bella Hurtado (Olympian) got a 2 out 2-RBI single up the middle to give the Jags a 3-0 lead which they never relinquished. Home runs by Jordyn Beatty (Santana) and Kassidy Harper (Santana) helped extend the lead and the Bobcats could never get back into the game.  Beatty went 2-2 with 3 walks and Harper went 2-5 with the home run and an RBI single. Sami Sandoval (Montgomery) also added a double to help start a rally. Sandez, Oceguerra and Garcia also each added 2 hits in the win.  Madison Mendez went another strong 7 innings only allowing 3 runs and 6 hits and improved her record to 6-7.
