Tyrone Shelley Named Southwestern College Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Chula Vista, CA – In addition to coaching men's basketball, Tyrone Shelley will also serve as the head coach for women's basketball.  Shelley becomes the eleventh head coach in school history and will assume his role effective immediately.  He replaces Janet Eleazar, who spent the previous 10 years leading the program, Director of Athletics Ron Valenzuela announced Tuesday.

"I knew that the next and right head coach was already on our campus," Valenzuela said. "Tyrone Shelly is well positioned to lead our program forward and I fully anticipate our women's basketball program to continue its climb to prominence under his leadership.  In Tyrone, we have a San Diego native who has demonstrated the ability to raise the competitive success of teams. His name is very easy to connect with the San Diego metropolitan area, especially the South Bay community"

Valenzuela added, "From his playing experiences at Pepperdine and San Diego State, and especially having developed as a head coach for our men's basketball program the last three years, Tyrone has all the skills and intangibles necessary to elevate Jaguar basketball."
