Bio

Coach Roland 'Jay' Slade comes to Southwestern Community College with 10+ years of collgiate and professional level track and field experience. Notably, Jay was one of the most world reknown Paralympic guide runners assiting physically and visually challenged athletes accomplish their competitive dreams nationally and internationally. Jay is a 7-time USA National Team Member, and guided athletes to two American Records. Jay assisted runners in the 2012 London Paralympics, guided his athlete to two Para World Silver Medals, and in 2015 at the Para PanAm Championships, also guided to a sprint silver medal. Jay is most proud of being the 1st American guide runner to receive an individual medal at a major championship.

Personally, Jay competed for Cal State University San Marcos in the sprints (100m, 200m, and 400m). Prior to moving up divisions at NCAA D2, San Marcos, Jay competed for Cuyamaca college and sprinted to the SoCal Championships in the 100m.

Aside from coaching and guide running, Jay is an accomplished drummer in two rock bands, an avid Star Wars Fan and gear head who loves cars. Coach Slade begins his second season with the Jaguars and will work with sprints and relays.
