Jaguar Football Tastes First Victory of the 2024 Season

Chula Vista, CA – A season of football that included its fair share of sighs, groans and dreadful football ended in cheers and jubilation as Southwestern College notched its first win of the season Saturday.
A wire-to-wire trouncing brought the hungry Jaguars its first taste of victory, in front of their home fans at DeVore Stadium. The Jags led 7-0 midway through the second quarter and never looked back en route to a 28-7 triumph over Grossmont.
With the win, the Jaguars 2-8 (1-6 Southern) snapped their eight-game losing streak, while Grossmont fell to 1-9 (0-7 Southern). Southwestern picked up a second win due to San Bernardino Valley notifying the California Community College Athletic Association of their decision to forfeit the remainder of the 2024 season.
Winning in college sports is hard and although there are some good developmental consolation prizes when it does not happen, any competitive head coach will acknowledge that the pursuit of victory is the purpose of sport and matter-of-factly they are tasked with winning games. There is an experience that comes with victory and this 2024 football team needed a win and to experience the satisfaction, joy and elation of victory.
With the first win of the Rodriguez era, Southwestern College looks to redirect this outcome into preparation for next year as the program heads into the off-season with a promising finish and reason to believe. Game won: level up.
