Track & Field shines in season opener at Cuyamaca Invitational

On February 16, 2024, the Southwestern Jaguars began their season with the Cuyamaca Invitational. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the track and field team was determined to compete.

In the Men's Long Jump, Jaden Rucker and Gabriel Dagnino secured first and second place respectively with impressive marks of 6.84 and 6.62 meters. They also performed well in the Triple Jump, with Jaden achieving a mark of 14.28 meters and Gabriel at 12.61 meters.

Southwestern's only thrower, Thomas Spittler, won first place in the Discus Throw event with a mark of 27.11 meters.

Brandon Guerrero achieved a top 10 finish in the 1500-meter event, while Jeffrey Salinas reached the 8th position in the 800-meter run. Illya Rangel and Rasilia Thomas both secured top 8 finishes in the Women's 3000-meter run.

Ricardo Ruiz took third place in the Men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.77, a promising start for the young athlete.

The team finished the day on a high note, securing second place in the Men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.
