Cross Country Teams set to Travel to Rancho Cucamonga for So. Cal Regionals

CHULA VISTA, CA — Southwestern College men's and women's cross country teams are set to travel to Rancho Cucamonga for the 2024 Southern California Cross Country Championship at Grigsby Field on Friday, November 8.
The last time out, Southwestern College women's cross country team had a pair of runners place in the top-30 and finish fifth in the overall team scoring, and the men's team had a runner place in the top-20 and tally a seventh-place team finish at the 2024 Inland Empire/Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Victorville, CA
Illya Rangel led the Southwestern women and placed tenth overall in conference. A sophomore from Tijuana, Mexico, Rangel turned in a personal record and clocked 21:34.50 over the 5K course with Rasilia Thomas in 24:17.20. From the competition lineup, Sofia Fajardo, Jenny Mendoza, Evelyn Zamora, and Maria Tamayo will also prepare to make the trip and represent the Jaguars in the 2024 Southern California Cross Country Championship.
True freshman Brandon Guerrero, also from Tijuana, Mexico finished twelfth overall in conference for the Jaguars with a time of 22:06.9. Alejandro Vargas, Brys Elbers, Diego Madrid, Eduardo Valdatti, and Jorge Montalvo will join Guerrero at the So. Cal Regionals.

Qualifying for the State Championship
From the Northern California and Southern California Regional Championship meets, a combined total of twenty-four (24) men's teams and twenty-four (24) women's teams will be permitted to advance into the CCCAA State Championship. 16 Teams from the South and 8 teams from the North will make up the 24 teams.
From the Northern California and Southern California Regional Championship meets, thirty (30) men's individual qualifiers and thirty (30) women's individual qualifiers will advance to the CCCAA State Championship. Individual qualifiers are not members of a State Championship qualifying team and will advance based on their finishing place at their respective Regional Championship meets. Individual qualifiers may only advance into the State Championship so long as they finish within the top 50-percent of all finishers within their Regional Championship
