Southwestern College had a solid weekend as it posts 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie against Pasadena College and Glendale College this past weekend
Against Pasadena College on Friday, the team came out red hot as it scored 13 runs in route to a 13-1 run rule victory. Madison Mendez (Santana) gets her first win as a Jaguar pitching all 5 innings and only allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run. Infielder Mariah Mata (Steele Canyon) led the way for the Jaguars with 4 hits with Kassidy Harper (Santana), Bella Hurtado (Olympian) and Nayeli Martinez (Hilltop) each contributing 2 hits in the win
In the 2nd game, Madi Villaescusa (Steele Canyon) pitched well, only allowing 5 runs in 4 plus innings but the Jags came up short in the 6-2 loss. Elyssa Garcia (Clairemont) gets her 1st home run of the season in the loss.
On Saturday, Madison Mendez pitched a gem in the first game of the double header against Glendale college, going all 7 innings and only allowing 1 earned run and 6 hits. Elyssa Garcia and Nayeli Martinez each had 2 hits with Martinez adding 2 rbis to help pace the win.
In the second game of the double header, it was a back-and-forth affair with Glendale taking a 6-2 lead into the 6th inning, but Southwestern rallied for 3 runs in the 6th and 1 run in the 7th to tie the game. Both teams had opportunities in extra innings but neither team could capitalize, and the game ended in a 6-6 tie as the game was ended due to darkness.
Madi Villaescusa went 5 strong innings only allowing 3 runs with Madison Mendez pitching the final 4 innings of the game. Danika Munoz (Helix), Dani Sandez, (Otay Ranch) and Bella Hurtado all had 3 hits with Kassidy Harper (Santana) adding 2 hits in the tie.
This week, the Jags are on the road with a game against Santa Ana on Wednesday, and back-to-back double headers against Rio Hondo and Santiago Canyon on Friday and Saturday.
