Reyes is the Jags only TRI-SPORT Athlete!

Reyes is the Jags only TRI-SPORT Athlete!

Southwestern College prides itself on our academics and transferring students on to the next level.  One huge draw to the only community college in the South Bay is the large athletics department!  Jaguar Athletics is home to 18 sports for men and women.  In the most recent years, the campus has received beautiful upgrades to our classrooms, campus and athletic facilities and creates a draw for athletes all over San Diego County to come be a Jag.

Sophomore Andrea Reyes came to us by way of Bonita Vista High School, right across the street.  She was currently completing her sophomore year of eligibility prior to the COVID-19 pandemic forced California to shut down.  The exciting thing about Andrea was she was our most recent TRI-SPORT student-athlete.  Once students leave high school, they usually pick a sport that they love more and pursue that to the point of holding out hope for a scholarship!  Andrea didn't follow that route, another thing that makes her standout!

As political science major at SWC, Reyes also participated in the Women's Soccer program in the Fall for the last two years.  This Spring 2020 she cleared it with the Athletic Director and both coaches from the Women's Tennis team and the Women's Track coach.  She dedicated herself to making sure she never missed practices and scheduled in advance how her months looked with Track meets on Saturdays and Tennis matches during the week.  Somehow balancing that and a personal life, she shined through it all!

Head Women's Soccer Coach Carolina Soto spoke about Andrea, "She has truly excelled and is a 3 sport athlete.  She applied to both USD and PLNU and is waiting to hear back."  Reyes played under Coach Soto and helped contribute to a the most recent season.

Women's Tennis Head Coach Susan Reason's loved having Andrea apart of the Tennis program this Spring.  She had her scheduled to play the #1 Singles and #1 Doubles every match.   Reasons had this to say about Reyes, "On behalf of Women's Tennis at Southwestern Community College, I would like to thank Andrea for her support and participation as a 3 sport student athlete .....her dedication to sports, is inspiring to all our athletes and students, present and future, attending Southwestern College."

Lastly, Reyes was a 4 year Varsity Letterman in Track and Field at Bonita Vista.  She joined our Women's Track team at Southwestern College this Spring.  Head Coach Tonie Campbell spoke about Reyes, "Andrea Reyes personifies what a tried and true Lady Jag is all about. A student athlete above her peers and "Wonder Woman" on the court, turf and field. Rarely does a multi-talented athlete like Andrea grace a coach's presence with their talents. But when they do cross your path, you, team members and competitors take notice."

Prior to the shutdown, Reyes was competing all around and waiting on results from school applications.  It is unknown what the future of athletics holds at the moment with the pandemic still keeping the state in lockdown, but we know for sure Andrea Reyes is going somewhere amazing!  She is a strong willed young woman with the world ahead of her!  Thank you for your dedication to the Jaguar Athletics Department and all the teammates you have shared a field or court with for whom you've left an imprint on.

GO JAGS!
