Southwestern announces Kim Keach as new Head Women's Water Polo Coach

Dean of Wellness, Exercise Science & Athletics, Tom Gang and Director of Athletics, Ron Valenzuela announced that Kim Keach has been named the Head Coach of Women's Water Polo.

Keach joins the Jaguars after spending the last two seasons as Head Coach at longtime conference power Grossmont College.  Under her direction, she collected 26 wins and owned a 10-3 conference record.  Grossmont was the PCAC Championship Runner-Up in back-to-back seasons (2024, 2023) and competed in the 3C2A SoCal Water Polo Regionals (2023).  In addition, while coaching high school varsity, Keach earned two-time Grossmont Valley League Coach of the Year honors (2018 and 2020).

"We are excited to have Coach Keach lead our women's water polo program as her playing and coaching experience will bring valued and proven success at the high school varsity and collegiate level of the sport", Valenzuela said.  "No stranger to San Diego County, Kim will undoubtedly make a splash and help us build a program that is highly competitive and cultivates championship success".

A San Diego native from La Mesa, Keach was three-time Grossmont North League Player of the Year (2006, 2007 and 2008).  She continued on to play the driver position for San Diego State's Water Polo team. Keach tallied 43 goals, 26 assists and 25 steals (2009-2011). Kim subsequently earned her Bachelor's degree in Women's Studies and a Minor in LGBT Studies from San Diego State, as well as a Master of Arts in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.

"I am excited to embark on this journey with Southwestern College and the women's water polo team. My goal is to help student-athletes reach their fullest potential and build a culture of excellence, teamwork, and resilience—both in and out of the pool. Together, we will grow this program and work toward a winning future.

I've been fortunate to serve as an adjunct faculty member at SWC over the past few years. The students and community are remarkable, and I'm thrilled to take on this role at one of the state's premier aquatic facilities.

We're ready to make waves in 2025 - see you on the pool deck!"
